For 16 years Luo Jian Jun was in jail. This led his former wife to her decision to divorce him, leaving the family and her 3 months old son Luo Xiao Lie with his grandmother. His whole life the boy lacked confidence, making him the victim of bullying in school, mostly caused by the group of Chen Hao Ran. Gao Mai is also part of this group, but he is not the typical bully. Due to the pressure of his peers and his wish of affiliation with his group he is forced to play his role again and again.

One day Luo Jian Jun meets his former classmate Jiang Xin. He’s still not in control of his life so he can develop a relationship with her easily as she also struggles with a broken family. Her husband left the family, thus she is forced to raise her son Gao Mai all by herself. But she slowly loses control over him as his peers seem more important to him. Luo Jian Jun and Jiang Xin are getting closer to each other than they intended and they both feel happy again. But they didn’t think about their two sons: On the one hand Gao Mai wants his original family back, together with his biological father, and on the other hand Luo Xiao Lie doesn’t want to share his newly gained father with others. And creating this patchwork family is also creating chaos, as not only are there new relationships to build, but also two school rivals – one the victim, the other the culprit – who now become stepbrothers …

Luo Jian Jun war 16 Jahre im Knast. Das war damals für seine Frau der finale Auslöser, sich endlich von ihm scheiden zu lassen und die Familie zu verlassen. Der damals nur drei Monate alte Luo Xiao Lie wächst daraufhin bei der Großmutter auf. Er kann sich zeitlebens nie behaupten, sondern ist Mobbingopfer Nummer 1 in der Schule, drangsaliert von einer Gruppe rund um Chen Hao Ran. Zu dieser Gruppe gehört auch Gao Mai, der zwar eigentlich nichts Böses im Sinn hat, der aber aufgrund von Gruppenzwang und des Wunsches nach Zugehörigkeit immer wieder mitmacht und zur Gruppe steht.

Eines Abends trifft Luo Jian Jun, der sein Leben auch nach dem Knast nicht auf die Reihe bekommen kann, auf eine ehemalige Klassenkameradin, Jiang Xin. Auch ihre Familie brach nach Streitigkeiten mit dem Ehemann auseinander, sodass sie Sohn Gao Mai nun alleine großzieht, ihn aber aufgrund seiner Schulclique kaum mehr unter Kontrolle hat. Luo Jian Jun und Jiang Xin kommen sich näher als erwartet, und beide fühlen sich zum ersten Mal wieder glücklich. Doch sie haben die Rechnung ohne ihre jeweiligen Söhne gemacht: Gao Mai möchte seine alte Familie mit seinem leiblichen Vater zurückhaben, und Luo Xiao Lie, der seinen Vater nie richtig kennenlernen durfte, möchte diesen nun nicht mit anderen Menschen teilen. Und mit der Zusammenlegung ihrer Familie ist das Chaos vorprogrammiert, da sich nun nicht nur neue Beziehungen entwickeln müssen, sondern auch zwei Schulrivalen – der eine Täter, der andere Opfer – zu Stiefbrüder werden …
