Nur das Leben des Jungen Nagi verschont er und lässt ihn nach Yamataikoku bringen, wo er ihn zum Jäger ausbilden will. Als er sich Königin Himikos Befehl widersetzt, den Jungen unverzüglich zu töten, führt ihre Flucht die beiden zurück nach Feuerland, wo eine abenteuerliche Odyssee beginnt …

Anmerkung:
Phoenix umfasst pro Buch je eine in sich abgeschlossene Geschichte. Das Setting, Szenario und die Zeitepoche unterscheiden sich von Buch zu Buch, aber im Grunde geht es dort immer um das selbe Dilemma der Menschen: Die Gier nach dem ewigen Leben. Der Grundsatz in diesem Manga ist immer gleich, alle Menschen werden geboren und müssen eines Tages sterben. Nur das hohe, beinah schon göttliche, Tier, der Phönix, lebt ewig und laut Legende soll das Blut des Phönix einen selbst das ewige Leben verleihen. In einem Wirbel der Gezeiten zeigt der Manga also in unterschiedlichen Geschichten und zeitlichen Epochen von der Prähistorik, Antike, hohe Prinzipatszeit bis hin zu einer fernen Zukunft im Jahre 3300.
Der Manga zeigt also in verschiedenen Geschichten, Handlungen und Epochen immer den gleichen Gedanken, aber immer komplett neu und anders erzählt. Durch Erkenntnisse die man in der einen Geschichte zieht, kann man die vorherige neu deuten.

Fénix es una serie de 12 complejas historias que se entrelazan por la presencia del mítico e inmortal guardián de la vida, el ave fénix. Cada uno de estos relatos están situados en distintos periodos de la historia tratando como argumental la búsqueda del ser humano por la inmortalidad, alternándose entre pasado, presente y futuro. También destaca la presencia del mismo protagonista, reencarnado una y otra vez. En su primer volumen, situado en el periodo 240-270 A.C., podremos seguir los acontecimientos de la era de la Reina Himiko del Yamataikoku, que usando su gran ejército, conducido por el general feudal Sarutahiko, invadirá Japón, en busca del ave Fénix y la leyenda que expone que su sangre puede darte la juventud eterna.
