Neben seiner Stellung als Priester der kaiserlichen Armee Russlands ist Alexei Karamazov für seine außerordentlichen Fähigkeiten in der Leichentechnik bekannt; er nennt sich zudem selbst den „Dr. Frankenstein der Romanow-Dynastie“.

Seitdem Alexei in seiner Heimat mithilfe von bewaffneten Leichen einen Aufstand anzettelte und anschließend ins Hinterland Afghanistans floh, sieht in ihm nicht nur die russische Regierung, sondern auch der britische Geheimdienst Walsingham eine Bedrohung. Abgeschieden vom Rest der Welt macht er sich daran, ein Königreich der Leichen zu erschaffen – fürchtet zumindest die Obrigkeit.

Als er mithilfe von Victors Notizen dem Geheimnis der Seele nachging, kannte Alexei im Namen der Wissenschaft weder Skrupel noch Tabus; für seine Versuche nutzte er selbst die sterblichen Überreste kleiner Kinder. Auch sein älterer Bruder Demitri musste in Folge der Experimente sein Leben lassen und dient ihm fortan als Butler.

Der Charakter bezieht sich auf Alexei Fyodorovich Karamazov, den Protagonisten aus Fjodor Dostojewskis Roman „Die Brüder Karamasow“.
