Description

High school student Mamoru Suzuhara is not only incredibly shy, he is also madly in love with the beautiful Aya Chiyono, daughter of an influential local politician. However, he doesn’t waste any thought on confessing his love to her, because he feels far more confident dealing with books than with people.

His little sister, who has an unmistakable sense that something is up, casually informs him of the fact that Aya’s family will be moving to Tokyo in a week’s time, as her father will be able to make a career there due to his connections. Thus panicked, Mamoru manages to man up, meets with Aya and suggests that she run away from home. The girl, until just now devastated, is thrilled by this proposal and persuades a few classmates to come along. Soon they are standing in front of a disused coal mine to camp out in the factory building and celebrate Aya’s 17th birthday in a week’s time.

It soon turns out, however, that they are not alone in the abandoned building, because Mallet, a child of illegal Thai immigrants and wanted by the police, has also barricaded himself in there. In search of his parents, from whom he has been separated, he tries to elude the authorities here, which is why the students have to deal with the police far sooner than they would like. What started as a pubescent rebellion against the arbitrariness of the adults turns into a real war against the state, because handing the child over to the police is out of the question!

But in the end, even the children cannot escape the impenetrable undergrowth of lies, intrigues, corruption and responsibility in which the parents are also entangled. And so they are faced with the question of who they really are, what they want to achieve in this life, and whether they can even finish what they have so recklessly set in motion.
