Liz and the Blue Bird (2018)

“Liz and the Blue Bird” tells the story of close friends Mizore and Nozomi, who are currently preparing for a music competition to perform the eponymous piece of music as a duet – a play about two unequal friends who unwillingly part ways one day.

Mizore plays the oboe in the school band but is a rather introverted girl and does not let even her band members get close to her. The only exception is the popular and rather extroverted Nozomi, who also belongs to the school band and plays the flute there. No wonder, then, that Nozomi is practically the centre of Mizore’s thinking. This gives the band members, in particular, reason to worry, as Mizore could focus her entire future on her beloved friend – and regret it at some point.

In any case, the two girls soon realise that they resemble the characters in the duet in some ways. As each of them deals with their fears and the competition slowly approaches, the two gradually begin to grow apart. Can the two overcome this emerging rift and successfully perform their duet? Or will they meet a fate similar to Liz and the Blue Bird?

»Liz und der Blaue Vogel« erzählt von den engen Freundinnen Mizore und Nozomi, die sich derzeit für einen Musikwettbewerb vorbereiten, um dort als Duett das namensgebende Musikstück aufzuführen – ein Stück über zwei ungleiche Freunde, deren Wege sich eines Tages ungewollt trennen.

Mizore spielt Oboe in der Schulband, ist jedoch ein ziemlich introvertiertes Mädchen und lässt selbst ihre Bandmitglieder nicht an sie heran. Die einzige Ausnahme ist die beliebte und eher extrovertierte Nozomi, die ebenfalls zur Schulband gehört und dort Flöte spielt. Kein Wunder also, dass Nozomi praktisch der Mittelpunkt Mizores Denken ist. Das gibt gerade den Bandmitglieder Grund zur Sorge, könnte Mizore doch ihre gesamte Zukunft auf ihre geliebte Freundin ausrichten – und es irgendwann bereuen.

Die zwei Mädchen merken jedenfalls bald, dass sie den Figuren des Duetts in gewisser Weise ähneln. Während jede von ihnen mit ihren Ängsten zu tun hat und der Wettbewerb langsam näher rückt, beginnen sich die zwei allmählich zu entfremden. Können die beiden diesen entstehenden Spalten überwinden und ihr Duett erfolgreich aufführen? Oder dreht ihnen ein ähnliches Schicksal wie Liz und dem Blauen Vogel?
